tHE Portfolio -
Reflections on Teaching in Higher Education (2002) |
Dr.
Merris Griffiths
Acknowledgements
By its very
nature, this portfolio has involved and been influenced by a number
of individuals over the last two years and I would like to
acknowledge their appreciated contributions as follows:
The biggest
‘thank you’ of all must go to
Bob Morris Jones, my mentor in the Education Department. I do
not think that I could have sustained a level of critical reflection
throughout if it were not for his enduring support, wise advice and
thought-provoking comments. He has shaped my approaches to teaching
in ways that even he may not realise, and numerous Aberystwyth cafes
have reaped the benefits of our regular tea-fuelled discussions
about students and strategies!
I would also
like to thank those individuals who have taken the time to offer
feedback on various aspects of the scheme. Firstly, thanks to
Mark Whitehead and
Tiffany Atkinson for their responses to my initial tHE essay,
and to Mark (again!) for sitting in on numerous lectures and
offering constructive criticism. Thanks also to the Education
Department’s visiting scholar,
Marian McKenna, for enthusiastically offering practical
suggestions for alternative approaches to teaching. Finally, my
students deserve a special mention, because the feedback I have
received from them has truly kept me motivated, given me a great
sense of pride and pleasure, plus an awful lot of job satisfaction!
